Horizon Europe receives €500 million boost and new bridge to the post-2027 programme

The amended Work Programme increases funding for 2026–2027 and introduces two new cross-cutting calls.

The European Commission has allocated an additional €500 million to Horizon Europe for 2026–2027, bringing the programme’s budget for these two years to approximately €14.8 billion.

The amended Work Programme introduces two new cross-cutting calls: €237 million for Transformative Change Towards a Nature-Positive Economy and Society, and €260 million for Bridging Actions 2027.

Bridging Actions 2027 supports the transition to the 2028–2034 framework programme and market deployment across advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, and research and technology infrastructures.

Why this matters

The amendment creates funding opportunities for universities, research organisations, SMEs and innovation-driven companies. It also signals stronger pathways from research to investment and market uptake. Organisations preparing their 2027 proposal pipelines should review the amended Work Programme and assess the new calls against their research strengths, partnerships and exploitation plans.

Status

The Work Programme amendment has been adopted.
